My story might as well be a movie...
Hi, I'm Nancy, thanks for stopping by! It's been over 16 years since I sat in my kitchen, in San Antonio, TX, wondering if I could be an actor on TV or in the movies. It looked so exciting and fun.
But I had zero experience in acting, no contacts in the industry and my path into the business world, alongside being a wife and mom to 3 young boys, was already well established.
The daydreams would creep in... fighting zombies as a badass, sword-wielding heroine, rocketing into space to save the planet, or being the mastermind behind a casino heist. I could see myself playing all those roles.
But I had no idea how to get involved to even start the process.

All of my boys.💖
I signed with a talent agent.
My first bookings were in student and independent films, industrial videos, and local commercials. My foot was in the door. I went to every audition I got. And with my first lesson in mind, I stayed true to myself.
The more I followed my instincts, the more I booked. I was still nervous at auditions...I don't think that ever goes away. But I wasn't trying to please anyone. I realized that when casting a role, producers don't even know what they're looking for until she walks in.

I book my first national commercial.
So here I am, chugging along, and head to this little commercial audition. I book it and work the 6-hour commercial shoot. It starts to air and it's everywhere. And that's when I realized why actors get excited for a national, union commercial. I made 6-figures from that job! That's why you see even A-list actors doing commercials. Do you like money? 😊
Don't walk to commercial auditions...run! It was the first of many to come. Commercial sets are usually lighthearted and fun.
Throughout my entire career, I've always been training.
Acting classes are everywhere and if they're not local to you, find a Zoom class. Of course, there are good teachers and bad teachers. I learned the hard way, as I did many times in my career. But find classes, and always be training. Even A-list actors train regularly!
There are some major RED FLAGS in my learnings that I pass onto my clients now. A teacher can have great power, so choose carefully.
The BIG wake up call!
I hit a major bump in the road 8 years into my career. As 2 of my national commercials were airing, my first and long-time talent agent stole almost $50,000 from me.
For any actor in her agency, she made sure that she was our only advisor in the industry. I wasn't supposed to speak to anyone else about "business."
So when she started cashing my paychecks as her own, it took me a while to understand what was happening.
My biggest advice to anyone in ANY industry is always have more than one advisor. Make sure this advisor/mentor is not tied to your financial success.
It took 7 years, but she finally pleaded guilty.
Long story short, I had to learn the real, legitimate way that the film and television industry works for actors. During the investigation, I guided the FBI through the industry so they could verify my evidence and complete the investigation.
With many court delays and a world pandemic, it took 7 years, but she finally pleaded guilty.
Because of this "bump," I learned the ins and outs of this business. I learned that many actors are vulnerable to scams because they don't have the right team in place.
My eyes were wide open and I realized I had handed my career over to this woman. THIS WAS MY BIGGEST MISTAKE!
You are the CEO of your company.
So run it like you are. Ask questions, make suggestions, and straight-up ask for what you want. You and your agent are a team. Be thankful when a talent agent represents you, but don't be intimidated or scared to talk to them. If that's the case, these are the wrong people to be on your team.
Remember when I said stay true to yourself? This is one of those moments. Put a trustworthy team together that allows you to be free, creative and speak your mind.
We are only powerless when we give away our power.
We moved to Los Angeles.
Instead of letting it crush me, I used it as a launching pad and we moved to LA. Over my 8 years as an actor in Texas, I had been networking with LA agents. When I let them know I was moving, they welcomed me with open arms.
Within a few weeks, I was auditioning and booking. As scary as people make LA sound (or any film industry hub), it's all the same. As long as you're professional, you're training, and you have a good resume, you'll work.
I know my LA story isn't the usual. Most actors don't land here and sign with agents the next minute. I had done something different than most.
Now I teach it to my clients.
I'm on a mission!
When other working actors heard my agent stole from me, they'd say, "You're a 'real' actor now!"
I don't believe anyone needs to go through what I did in order to learn how the industry works. To make sure that I do my part to help all actors, I decided to coach as many actors as possible in the business of acting. Let's take the guesswork out of the industry!
I created accessible courses you so you can learn on your own.
What started as a bulleted list of things to do to get started, turned into an 8-hour course! I broke it up into short videos that focus on the parts of each lesson. I included the documents and spreadsheets I've created to track my business.
It's obviously not everything you need, but it will get you moving quickly in the right direction.
A life I only dreamed about, is now my reality.
I would love to show you how to get started, how to watch your own back, and teach you the ins and outs of this business.
I took a chance on myself without any guidance. I've fallen and gotten back up. I can teach you where the pitfalls are. Learn from my experience.
Follow my simple 7-Step Cycle To Become A Working Actor. I tell you what to do every step of the way!
I created a free video workshop so you can get as much information as possible in 1 hour. Watch it, take notes, and get started!! What are you waiting for?
Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will your acting career. But you gotta start sometime. Let's start now!
4 months after moving to LA, I landed a gig that sent me to Rome. That's my kind of daydream!
